Getting into a program is also one way to gain new friends since most programs are usually held as a group internship. Due to this, you do not only gain friends but also hone your cooperation skills. You can learn how to relate with other people and help each other with whatever task your supervisor or manager has given you.
It is also one way to gain more knowledge on a particular interest of yours. Just as with other kinds of internships, you get to have more exposure to the workplace and get to help out on minor projects.
